About this teardrop
Wallace is a cream & silver teardrop manufactured by SL Industries in England. It has space inside for two (the mattress is 6′ 5″ long) and an opening rear hatch with a small sink & food preparation area.
There is a door with illuminated entrance on one side and a window on the other, and the roof contains a small skylight. The skylight can be opened fully, or on rainy days it can be opened part-way to give ventilation without letting the rain in.
Inside there is an 11 cm deep mattress with an anti-condensation mat below and an elasticated mattress protector on top. You are welcome to bring your own bedding or sleeping bags. Alternatively we are happy to hire you a duvet & pillows for a small extra charge.
Wallace comes with an electric hookup cable to connect to a 230V mains supply. This powers the TV, two double sockets and the water heater for the small sink under the rear hatch. There’s a toaster and low power kettle included for your use.
When running off-grid, Wallace’s leisure battery powers the 12V electrics. There is a door light to help you find your way back in the dark. Inside there are reading lights and ceiling lights. Wallace also has a stereo system with radio and USB input, a 12V auxiliary power outlet and USB ports for charging your devices on- or off-grid.
Towing & using the teardrop
Being so narrow & light, Wallace is really easy to tow. Your vehicle will just need a standard 50mm towbar and either a 7-pin or 13-pin trailer socket. Wallace only needs 7 pins; we can provide an adapter if you vehicle has a 13-pin socket.
At our barn in Hawkshead, we will connect the trailer for you at the start of your hire and we will disconnect it at the end of your hire. You can take the teardrop wherever you like within the mainland UK. Explore the campsites in the Lake District, or roam further afield – the choice is yours.
If you don’t have a spare numberplate to put on Wallace, we can make one for you for a small fee.
Don't want to tow?
We can provide an extra service for you if you don’t want to tow the teardrop. Perhaps your vehicle does not have a towbar, or perhaps you have arrived in the Lakes by train / coach.
In any case, we can deliver the teardrop to a campsite for you. You book the campsite, tell us which one you have booked, and we will make sure the teardrop is ready & waiting for you. When your holiday is over, just leave Wallace on the campsite.

Skylight & Window
Wallace has an opening skylight and side window. You can latch these open for ventilation at night or in bad weather, and they can also be opened to 50 degrees for greater airflow on hot days.
Both the skylight and the side window have an integral insect screen which can be pulled across to keep the bugs out, or you can close the blackout blind for privacy.
Easy to Tow
Wallace weighs only 270kg. This is light enough to be towed by just about any car, including most EVs with towbars, without significantly affecting your range.
Its maximum width is 195cm and the teardrop body is just 155cm wide. This means you will not need wing mirror extensions to tow Wallace as its body is narrower than that of any ordinary car.
Any full UK car driving license allows you to tow Wallace – you should see the “BE” entitlement on your license. If you don’t have a spare numberplate for Wallace, don’t worry, we’ll make one for you for a small fee.
Integral Bicycle Rack
Wallace has a Thule bicycle rack on the front which can carry two bicycles.
The rack comes with the straps needed to hold the bikes in place, but please bring your own bicycle locks for security.
TV & Audio
When hooked up to a mains supply, you can turn on the TV to access any aerial channels available where you are.
When roaming off-grid, you can use the audio system to listen to the radio or play tunes from your mobile.
Wallace also has USB charging ports for your convenience. These are powered by the leisure battery, so you can charge up your devices anywhere.
Rear Hatch
At the rear of the teardrop, open the hatch to find a small sink and food preparation area.
You can plug in the supplied toaster or kettle when hooked up to the mains, and there is a small 230V water heater to make washing up less of a chore.
Camping off-grid? You can still use the sink and cold tap thanks to the 12V leisure battery and water pump.
LED Lighting
The teardrop has cool-running LED reading lights and mood strip lighting at the other end. There is a courtesy light above the door so that you can find you way home in the evening.
